How can I determine the veracity of data

    1. I was looking at an entry in which 2 people were listed as "Influencers of this person". How can I tell how it got there and if anyone else agrees with this?

BTW, I am new to this DB, so if this is answered somewhere, just leave a pointer to the answer. Thanks.

      1. Roger, you can look at the “Page History” link for any topic and see when and by whom assertions about a topic were added or removed. For example, your user history. We don’t currently have a model for other users to agree with an assertion, however.

    Types and Data

    1. I am having problems to do some research on Freebase, and my doubt is if this is cause I'm not using it the way it was designed for, or it just don't have enough data yet.

For example, I was trying to search by Nightwish Music Videos from every albums. I can search by Nightwish and then filter their albums, what works fine, but there's not a type for 'Music Videos', also, if I filter by 'film' and 'media' I get just some movies that has Nightwish songs.

      1. Bemvindo, Paulo. We have a lot of data about recorded music, but we do not have a lot of information about music videos, nor have we done a lot of modeling of what music video data would look like. If you want to help out, you could prototype music videos in your personal domain, or join the music modeling interest group and comment there. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

      2. Addendum: the music modeling interest group is here.

    Enterprise solutions?

    also posted to
    1. I work for a huge company and I can see a real value for having a enterprise server for our own database in house as well as solutions using it for our customers.

How far out on the horizon will this sort of thing be available? Who do I contact to stay abreast of such?

      Thanks.

      1. Ditto for me. Enterprise servers that could selectivly map in portions of the Freebase.com dataset and then map out (or export) to Freebase certain portions of the dataset would be useful. Private mash-ups that combine public and private data are my objective.

    album/film/book cover art

    also posted to
    1. Is there a recommended source for album/film/book cover art?  How does the licensing for that kind of thing go?  When it's available on the artist or author website, or if it's on amazon, is that in the public domain?

      1. Hey, Lisa.

Generally, album, film, and book art is copyright by the publisher; images put on someone’s Web site do not become public domain unless the owner explicitly declares so. By default, an image should be assumed to be copyright by its creator.

Images uploaded by Freebase users must comply with the Freebase Contribution Guidelines; specifically, images must be in the public domain, compatible with a CC-by license, or owned by the user, who agrees to license them CC-by by uploading them. Thanks for asking!

Using the schema in own commerical apps

    also posted to
    1. On the one hand you state that the data (and schema) are CC-BY but on the other you state that the API cannot be used to duplicate you Site or Service.

Exactly what Site or Service am I NOT permitted to duplicate?

More specifically, am I allowed to utilize the type schema in a commercial application designed to help users organize their own data with said schema? (i.e. Can I develop and commercialize an application that is "compatiable" with the freebase type-schema?)

      1. Hey Jason.  Sorry for the confusion on this one!  We're actually in the process of reviewing the Terms of Service in order to clarify a lot of the issues around licensing and reuse of the data.  Hopefully by the end of the month we'll have a much clearer, updated version that we can then submit to the community for feedback.

The short answer is that the schema is licensed under CC-BY, as you noted, so please feel free to use it in your commercial app.  The only thing we ask is that you attribute it back to the Freebase community, as outlined in the license terms.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and just let us know if you have any other questions.

    1. Upload the taxonomic tree of life?

      1. Hey, Dan. I have to admit that I'm not sure what you mean by the taxonomic tree of life. If it's domain-specific, and you want feedback on the idea, I'd suggest posting in the relevant domain. Otherwise, can you give a little more info on what you're proposing?

      2. There's some work already underway in this area - check out the discussions going on in the biology domain and see if that's along the lines of what you had in mind.
