I noticed, for example, that some efforts have been made to import a large number of articles from Wikipedia. Was this a one-off effort, or is there some sort of periodic refresh?

I am thinking in particular about volatile data, such as the properites of sports teams. Current championships, owners, etc. can change often, squads and rosters change at least annually. Does this information need to be maintained concurrently with Wikipedia? If the types start include things such as number of appearances and goals scored by individual players, then the update frequency switches to weekly.

With the vast number of contributors keeping the WIkipedia articles up-to-date, it will always be the de facto "master". I don't think Freebase needs to (or should) compete with this, rather its power is in the ability to formally stucture the data and allow meaningful queries and extracts. This power is significantly diluted if the topic diverges from the master article.

What is the Freebase policy on this? Is the assumed that topics will be maintained in situ or is it actually preferred to refresh from alternative sources? Or does the very nature of the site discourage volatile information in favour of static data?

- John
