Charles Tilly (May 27, 1929 – April 29, 2008) was an American sociologist, political scientist, and historian who has written books on the relationship between politics and society.
Tilly was born on May 20, 1929, in Lombard, Illinois (near Chicago). He was educated at Harvard and Oxford, obtaining the Ph.D. in sociology at Harvard in 1958.
