Cholera, sometimes known as Asiatic cholera or epidemic cholera, is an infectious gastroenteritis caused by enterotoxin-producing strains of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Transmission to humans occurs through ingesting food or water that is contaminated with cholera vibrios.
