Wenham was born in Marrickville, Sydney, Australia, the son of Kath and Bill Wenham. He has five older sisters, Maree, Kathy, Helen, Carmel and Anne, and an older brother, Peter. Peter's son is named Justin Wenham. Wenham was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and attended Christian Brothers' High School, Lewisham.
