Professor Minerva McGonagall is a fictional character in the Harry Potter book series written by J. K. Rowling. During the series, she is Deputy Headmistress, head of Gryffindor House, Transfiguration professor, and later Headmistress at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she began teaching in December 1956.
