"Rat Salad" is a two-and-a-half minute instrumental by Black Sabbath, from their 1970 album Paranoid. The song's most prominent feature is a drum solo by Bill Ward, bookended by guitar riffs by Tony Iommi. Van Halen considered adopting the name "Rat Salad" early on in their career, until then-lead singer David Lee Roth suggested simply using "Van Halen."
