Sonora

Sonora is the county seat of Tuolumne County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 4,423. Sonora is the only incorporated community in Tuolumne County. Located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, in the heart of California’s “Gold Country,” Sonora was named after the miners from Sonora, Mexico who settled the city in 1848.
