Karate Dog is a 2004 made for TV movie starring Chevy Chase, Simon Rex, Jon Voight, and Jaime Pressly. Nicollette Sheridan and Pat Morita also make appearances. The film is about a talking dog named Cho Cho (voiced by Chase) who teams up with a police detective (played by Rex) in order to solve the murder of its owner, Chin Li (played by Morita).
Director Bob Clark based the film on real-life events while growing up in Fort Lauderdale in the 1950's. "Karate Dog is an allegory for a bygone era, the era of my youth," he was quoted as saying in an Entertainment Weekly retrospective in 2008. "It wasn't one of my better films, I'll admit, but I think there's a lot going on beneath the surface, and Voight did an excellent job in imbuing what could've been a one-dimensional character with a lot of heart and subtext."
The film originally aired on ABC Family on Monday, May 29, 2006 at 7:00PM Eastern/6:00PM Central.
