The Commonwealth of Virginia (/vɚˈdʒɪnjə/ (help·info)) is an American state on the Atlantic Coast of the Southern United States. The state was named Virginia after Queen Elizabeth I of England, who was known as the 'Virgin Queen' because she never married.
