Fort Knox is a census-designated place on the border of Hardin and Meade Counties in Kentucky that includes the housing for the Fort Knox Army base and the Fort Knox Bullion Depository. As of the 2000 census, the total base population was 12,377 (9,294 in Hardin County and 3,083 in Meade County). It is included in the Elizabethtown, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area.
