Brideshead Revisited is a 2008 British drama film directed by Julian Jarrold. The screenplay by Jeremy Brock and Andrew Davies is based on the 1945 novel of the same name by Evelyn Waugh, which previously was filmed in 1981 as an eleven-episode television serial that was broadcast by ITV in the UK and PBS in the United States. Although he aspires to be an artist, middle class Charles Ryder is studying history at the University of Oxford, where he befriends wealthy Lord Sebastian Flyte, a flamboyant homosexual and alcoholic. His family, the noble Marchmains, strongly disapprove of both proclivities.
